In this period of recession every family are trying to save on their bills. On average, food bills are the highest bills every month for a household.
British families spend over £90 million in supermarkets every year.
SUPERMARKET TECHNIQUES:
1. The smell of baking bread or rotisserie chickens, are there on purpose to entice customers.
2. As you walk into a shop you see plenty of fresh produce and bargains, these are to give the shop a healthy image. Take a look, there isn’t any alcohol or junk food.
3. Signs will be shouting special offers at you and this makes you think that there are more bargains than there actually is which makes you spend more. Once you have bought a few bargains you might then be tempted to buy a few items that are more expensive.
4. Have you ever seen a detailed plan in a supermarket showing the location of items? No is the answer. Why? The supermarkets ant to make sure you walk around as much as possible, and as you do this you will be tempted by more items.
5. Signs and colours are important. Red draws attention the most. Signs are repeated as well.
6. Be aware of products that go together for example, apple tart and custard, cream and puddings, there’s aren’t suggestion but temptations to buy more.
7. Be careful when studying shelves, it is possible that the most expensive produce are at eye level with the cheaper items at a lower level.
